The cross-border tracking checklist

Prepare a cross-border tracking workflow by mapping shipping handoffs, checking shipment data and agreeing how your team investigates delivery exceptions.

JetonTrack · Updated

A cross-border tracking checklist is a rollout plan for following parcels across warehouses, transport partners and destination markets. Start with one representative shipping lane. Confirm which facts are available at each handoff, who owns a missing update and how the customer receives a useful explanation.

Map the lane and each handoff

List the warehouse, origin partner, export handoff, customs stage and local delivery partner for the selected lane. Record who provides information at each step and who can investigate a gap. A label created in a warehouse does not establish that a carrier has accepted a parcel. Agree which evidence confirms that handoff before describing the shipment as moving.

Check the records that connect the journey

Keep the order reference, individual parcel identifiers and any replacement or local tracking number connected. Retain the original event, event time, time zone and source alongside a readable status. Check a split order: one delivered parcel must not close the others. Agree how corrected references and late events will be reviewed without erasing the confirmed history.

Turn exceptions into owned investigations

For missing scans, customs queries, address problems and unsuccessful delivery, define the signal, review owner and next check. Set investigation thresholds with the relevant partner rather than applying one waiting period to every lane. Keep the last confirmed fact separate from an assumption. Support should know what it can tell the customer while operations investigates.

Test difficult journeys before expanding

Follow representative records through a normal delivery, partner change, split order and exception. Compare warehouse evidence with the carrier timeline and the customer view. Record missing fields and unresolved ownership questions. Review delivered and still-open parcels separately when assessing a lane; a summary of completed deliveries cannot explain every parcel that remains in transit.

Rollout checklist

Before evaluating a JetonTrack setup, prepare the following. Confirm available connections, carrier events and production access with the team for your actual lanes.

  • Name a working owner for every partner handoff.
  • Provide anonymized normal, split and exception records.
  • Agree event meanings, time zones and reference corrections.
  • Test the tracking link and support handoff in the customer’s language.
  • Document gaps, acceptance decisions and the next review date.

Common questions

Should every international lane use the same exception threshold?

Not automatically. Review the partner’s process, service and available events for each lane, then document when your team should investigate.

What if the local tracking number is missing?

Preserve the confirmed handoff and original reference. Assign someone to obtain the local identifier; do not invent progress or replace the record with an unverified match.
