What is WISMO? A practical guide to delivery questions

Understand WISMO and build a practical process for clearer tracking, useful delivery updates and better handling of shipment exceptions.

JetonTrack · Updated

WISMO means ‘Where is my order?’ It describes customer questions about an order’s progress or arrival. To address these questions, give customers a clear route to tracking, explain what each delivery stage means and assign someone to act when a shipment needs attention.

Identify what the customer is missing

Separate order processing from transport. A customer waiting for a warehouse dispatch needs a different answer from someone whose parcel has stopped moving. Tag incoming questions by stage: not dispatched, tracking unavailable, delayed, delivery attempted or marked delivered. Review the message and tracking information available when the customer contacted you.

Set expectations before a delivery problem

Explain handling time separately from transit time in order confirmations. For international orders, describe possible customs steps and where customers can find updates. Treat an estimated delivery date as an estimate. If information changes, explain the change and the next useful action without inventing a new arrival date.

Make every update answer a question

Keep the tracking link easy to find in confirmation messages and the customer account. Translate carrier events into plain language while retaining the event time. A useful update says what happened, whether the customer needs to act and how to get help. Avoid sending repeated messages that add no new information.

Give exceptions an owner

Define when a stalled shipment enters a support queue and which team contacts the carrier. Keep internal investigation notes separate from customer updates. Measure delivery questions per shipped order alongside repeat contacts and unresolved cases; review the reasons behind changes before attributing them to a new tool.

Operational checklist

Use these checks when reviewing your process. When evaluating JetonTrack, confirm the supported carriers, notification options and exception workflows with the team.

  • Test the tracking journey from a real order confirmation.
  • Name an owner and next action for each exception type.
  • Check message language, timing and contact details.
  • Review a sample of answered and unanswered delivery questions.

Common questions

Does a tracking link remove all WISMO questions?

No. Missing events, unclear estimates and delivery exceptions can still require support. The tracking experience should make that next step clear.

Which WISMO issue should we address first?

Start with the most frequent question your team can act on. Inspect example orders to identify the missing information or operational handoff.
